A: I’m concerned because I have no news from Jerry. Let’s give
him a ring. Where’s your mobile? Ah, there it is on top of the
charger. What’s Jerry’s number? It’s not programmed.
B: I think that it’s 073.655.192. Or maybe it’s 198: try both of
them. Any luck? Perhaps the line is engaged? Try again.
A: It’s no use: the signal is too weak. Look here, above the
“battery” icon: “No service”.
B: We always have the same problem. Our house is between
two hills and a river. There aren’t many masts out here in the
country. Wait, I’ve got an idea. Try outside. Go through the
hall, out the front door around the house and into the
garden. Walk down to the end of the path by the trees and
grass and hold the phone above your head.
A: No, it’s no use. There’s not much difference inside or outside
the house. The signal is still not strong enough and there is
not enough power. Maybe we can email him?
B: I don’t know his address.
A: Then let’s try chatting online with him, although I don’t have
a lot of time.
B: Neither do I.
A: And I’m bad at technology.
B: So am I.
A: What kind of computer have you got?
B: A white one with black buttons.
A: Me too! Mine is exactly the same.

A : Je m’inquiète car je n’ai pas de nouvelles de Jerry.
Passons-lui un coup de fil. Où est ton portable ? Ah, le
voilà, sur le chargeur. Quel est le numéro de Jerry ? Il n’est
pas programmé.
B : Je pense que c’est le 073.655.192. Ou c’est peut-être 198 :
essaie les deux. Alors ça marche ? Peut-être que la ligne
est occupée ? Essaie à nouveau.
A : C’est inutile : le signal est trop faible. Regarde ici, au-
dessus de l’icône « batterie » : « Pas de service ».
B : Nous avons toujours le même problème. Notre maison est
entre deux collines et une rivière. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de
relais ici à la campagne. Attends, j’ai une idée. Essaie à
l’extérieur. Traverse l’entrée, sors par la porte d’entrée
autour de la maison et dans le jardin. Marche jusqu’au bout
de l’allée à côté des arbres et de l’herbe et tiens le
téléphone au-dessus de ta tête.
A : Non, c’est inutile. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de différence dans
ou hors de la maison. Le signal n’est toujours pas assez fort
et il n’y a pas assez de puissance. Peut-être pouvons-nous
lui envoyer un e-mail ?
B : Je ne connais pas son adresse.
A : Alors essayons de chatter en ligne avec lui, bien que je
n’aie pas beaucoup de temps.
B : Moi non plus.
A : Et je suis mauvais en technologie.
B : Moi aussi.
A : Quel type d’ordinateur as-tu ?
B : Un blanc, avec des touches noires.
A : Moi aussi ! Le mien est exactement pareil !
