A JOB INTERVIEW
A: David, hi!
D: Oh, sorry Anna, I didn’t see you!
A: No worries! Are you OK? You look a bit stressed…
D: I’m actually on my way to a job interview.
A: Oh really? Kate told me you were looking for a new job, you may have found one then?
D: Yes, I was looking at the job offers last week when I saw an ad for an engineer with a big IT company. It’s exactly the sort of job I was hoping for. I sent off the application form and my CV right away, and I’ve got an interview today.
A: Well, let’s hope you get it!
D: Oh, I’m not very optimistic. There must be a lot of competition for a position like that.
A: Don’t be so negative! With your qualifications and experience, you’re probably just what they’re looking for. If they asked you to come for an interview it means they’re interested in your profile. Who’s the interview with?
D: It’s with the head of HR. I feel so nervous.
A: Just keep calm, everything will be all right.
D: I know, I was reading an article about job interviews last night. It said that I must keep calm, answer the questions honestly and remember to keep to the point and not to waffle. And I mustn’t be too modest, but not too arrogant either and I must remember...
A: Hey, calm down, stop panicking and behave naturally! Just be yourself and I’m sure they’ll love you!
D: Yes, I hope so. Sorry, I got carried away. Do you think I should ask the interviewer questions as well?
A: Yes, it shows you’re interested in the job. Wait until the right moment. Don’t ask them straight away.
D: I’ve also been finding out about the company, their products, their markets and so on.
A: Well that’s great, it’s a sign that you’ve prepared for the interview and that you’re motivated for the job.
D: But what shall I say if they ask why I want to leave my current job? I can’t say that it’s boring, that my boss is an idiot who doesn’t give me any responsibility and that I’m underpaid.
A: No, I reckon it would be better to say that you’re looking for a more challenging job with more responsibility.
D: Yes, you’re right. Well I’d better go. I don’t want to be late for my interview. Thanks for reassuring me!
A: Good luck, David. Let me know how it goes. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

B : Oh, excuse-moi Anna, je ne t’avais pas vue.
A : Pas de soucis ! Ça va ? Tu as l’air un peu stressé.
B : En fait je suis en route pour un entretien d’embauche.
A : Vraiment ? Kate m’a dit que tu cherchais un nouvel emploi. Alors tu en as peut-être trouvé un ?
B : Oui, je regardais les offres d’emploi la semaine dernière quand j’ai vu une annonce pour un ingénieur dans une grande société d’informatique. C’est exactement le genre de poste que j’espérais trouver. J’ai envoyé le formulaire d’embauche avec mon CV toute de suite, et j’ai un entretien aujourd’hui.
A : Alors espérons que tu l’auras !
B : Je ne suis pas très optimiste. Il doit y avoir beaucoup de concurrence pour un poste comme ça.
A : Ne sois pas si négatif ! Avec tes diplômes et ton expérience tu es probablement exactement ce qu’ils cherchent. S’ils t’ont demandé de venir pour un entretien, ça veut dire qu’ils sont intéressés par ton profil. L’entretien est avec qui ?
B : Avec le directeur du RH. Je me sens si nerveux.
A : Reste calme et tout se passera bien.
B : Je sais, je lisais un article sur les entretiens d’embauche hier soir. Ca disait que je dois rester calme, répondre aux questions de manière honnête et de ne pas oublier de rester dans le sujet, sans parler pour ne rien dire. Et je ne dois pas être trop modeste, mais pas trop arrogant non plus et je dois me rappeler...
A : Hé ! Calme-toi, arrête de paniquer et reste naturel. Sois toi-même et je suis sûre qu’ils t’adoreront.
B : Oui, j’espère. Excuse-moi, je me suis laissé emporter. Penses-tu que je devrais poser des questions à l’interviewer ?
A : Oui, cela montre que le poste t’intéresse. Attends le bon moment. Ne les pose pas tout de suite.
B : Je me suis également renseigné sur l’entreprise, leurs produits, leurs marchés, etc.
A : Alors, c’est très bien. Cela signifie que tu as préparé l’entretien et que tu es vraiment motivé pour le poste.
B : Mais que dois-je dire s’ils me demandent pourquoi je veux quitter mon emploi actuel ? Je ne peux pas dire que c’est parce-que c’est ennuyeux, que mon chef est un idiot qui ne me donne aucune responsabilité, et que je suis sous payé.
A : Non, je crois qu’il vaut mieux dire que tu cherches un poste avec davantage de défis et de responsabilités.
B : Oui, tu as raison. Bon, il faut que j’y aille. Je n’ai pas envie d’être en retard pour mon entretien. Merci de m’avoir rassuré.
A : Bon courage, David. Tu me diras comment ça s’est passé. Je croise les doigts pour toi!
