SPARE TIME
A: BBC Radio 2, I’m Amy Williams. Welcome to 'Spare Time'.
Our special guest this week is the author, Roger Brown.
Hello, and welcome Brown.
J: Thank you.
A: So, Roger, we all know your books, but today, we’re going
to talk about how you spend your time when you are not
writing.
J: Well, I’m a big fan of reading, as you can imagine! But
apart from that, I enjoy gardening and going for long walks
at the weekends. I also play the violin in a local orchestra.
A: And what about your wife. Does she share your hobbies?
Does she play any musical instruments?
J: No, she doesn't, but she likes gardening too. She's also
very good at painting.
A: Oh really? What does she paint?
J: We live in a beautiful part of the country, and she enjoys
painting the landscapes around our house…
Then of course we enjoy going out in the evenings. We e
enjoy going to the theatre or the cinema now and then,
and we love going out for dinner at good restaurants, or
for a drink with friends. We’re involved in a local charity,
too. And we love travelling when we get the time…
A: Wow, you must be very busy!
J: Yes, I suppose we are!
A: And you've got two children, haven't you? What do they
like doing in their spare time?
J: My daughter, Jane is a student. She’s studing to be a
solicitor. She hasn't got very much spare time, but she's
really into sports. She’s involved in the tennis association at
her university, and she runs marathons every year.
A: That’s impressive! Do you enjoy sports?
J: No, I'm not too keen on sports, but as I said, I love walking.
A: I know you've got a son of 14 (fourteen) as well. He's still at
school, so I suppose he has a bit more free time than his
sister?
J: Yes, Matthew loves watching TV series and playing video
games, like most teenage boys, but he’s also very
interested in animals. He wants to be a vet. He often goes
to a nearby farm at the weekend to help the farmer with
the cows, the pigs and the horses.
A: That’s great! Do you have any pets?
J: Yes, we’ve got two dogs and a cat.
A: So, you enjoy playing music, but what sort of music do you
like listening to?
J: We like all sorts. We often go to concerts, and we’re always
listening to music at home. The children are really into
music too, so it’s rarely quiet in our house…Luckily it’s an
old house with thick walls!

TEMPS LIBRE
A : Bonjour, BBC Radio 2 / Amy Williams. Bienvenue à 'Temps
Libre'.
A : Et votre épouse. Partage-t-elle vos passe-temps ? Joue-t-
elle d'un instrument de musique ?
J : Non, mais elle aime jardiner aussi. Elle peint aussi très bien.
A : Vraiment ?
A : Waouh !
