AN EXPENSIVE JOURNEY
In a travel agency
A: Please sit down. How can I help you?
B: I want to travel from London to Liverpool on Tuesday. I
have an important meeting at one o’clock and I can’t be
late. I also have a few people to see before I leave. I
don’t have much time, but we can meet at the business
lounge in the station.
A: Right. There’s a train that leaves Euston at ten past nine.
B: Does it arrive before half-past eleven?
A: Yes it does. That gives you a little time before your
appointment.
B: How much does a return ticket cost?
A: A second class ticket on that train is ninety pounds. The
ten thirty train costs one hundred and fifty.
B: That’s a lot of money. Is there a cheap train at eleven?
A: Yes there is, but it’s a slow one. It gets to Liverpool at
twenty to three. There is a night train at midnight on
Monday, but I’m afraid that it’s expensive too. Do you
want to fly?
B: I feel a little nervous when I take a plane, but do I have a
choice? How many flights are there on Tuesday?
A: There are a few morning flights, and some of them are
inexpensive. For example, there’s a SkyJet at a quarter to
eight. It arrives at a quarter past nine and costs only ten
pounds.
B: Ten pounds is very reasonable.
A: Ah, but that’s the single fare. A return is two hundred
pounds.
B: That’s mad! Doyou have another idea?
A: Yes, I do. Cancel the meeting or take a coach.

UN VOYAGE COUTEUX
(Dans une agence de voyage)
A : Asseyez-vous, je vous en prie. Comment puis-je vous aider
?
A : Bien. Il y a un train qui quitte la gare d’Euston à 9h10.
B : Est-ce qu’il arrive avant 11h30 ?
A : Oui.
£200.
B : C’est fou ça ! Avez-vous une autre idée ?
A : Oui. Annulez le rendez-vous ou prenez un autocar.
