Passenger: Good morning. Is this the bus I take to get to the
university?
Bus driver: No. This is an express bus to the shopping Centre.
P: Oh, sorry. Which bus will get me to the campus?
B: You can take the number 3 or the number 8. The number 3
is an express to the university.
P: Okay, thank you. How often does it come?
B: The number 8 arrives at the depot on the hour. The
number 3 comes every 15 (fifteen) minutes.
P: Okay, thanks. The number 8 (eight) will be here soon, then.
How long does it take to get to the school?
B: It makes a lot of stops. It takes at least 50 minutes.
P: Fifteen minutes? That’s quick!
B: No 50, as in five-oh. You’re better off waiting for the
express.
P: Oh, okay. And what’s the fare?
B: Two pounds for adults.
P: Thank you for your help!
Hailing down a taxi
Taxi Driver: Would you like a taxi, ma’am?
Woman: Yes, I would.
T: Do you have just one suitcase?
W: Yes, that’s it. I’m going to the city Centre. Is there a flat
rate, or do you use the meter?
T: I use the meter. Where would you like to go?
W: I’m going to the Claremont Hotel on Queens Street.
T: Okay
W: About how long will it take us to get there?
T: Oh, at this time of day, it won’t take long …about 15 (fifteen) or 20 (twenty)) minutes
W: What do you think the fare will be?
T: Probably about £15.00
(15 minutes later)
T: Here we are.
W: How much is that?
T: That’ll be £13.00 (thirteen pounds).
W: Here’s £15.00 (fifteen pounds). Keep the change.
T: Thank you. I’ll get your suitcase for you.
(The taxi driver opens the boot)
T: Here you go. Have a nice day.
W: Thank you.
