THE INTERVIEW

A: Could you tell us about your life, Dawn Patel? You’re a very young millionaire!

B: I was born in Leicester. My parents came to the UK in 1972. I went to secondary school until I was sixteen years old. On my seventeenth birthday I left and became a hairdresser. After a few years, I knew that I wanted to do something different. I spoke to my mum and dad and they told me that they agreed with me. Then they gave me some good advice. They said: “Work hard, gain knowledge and make progress”. I wrote to dozens of universities to ask for information about careers. One day I heard about a business degree at Bristol university so I took the entrance exam, which I passed quite easily. I found the course fairly difficult but I studied hard, I was a good student, and fortunately I had some excellent teachers. I also met loads of cool people and made some fantastic friends.

A: It sounds fascinating. Please go on.

B: I got a job as a manager with an oil company in Bath. They paid me very well, but after a while I felt bored and I knew it was time to look for something else. I saw an advert for a marketing director at a small start-up. It looked interesting so I went for an interview and got the job. The company grew very fast and I was promoted regularly.

A: I’m not surprised. Is that how you became rich and famous?

B: No, not really. That wasn’t the reason at all. It’s easy to explain: I married the man who bought the company!

L’ENTRETIEN

A : Cela m’a l’air fascinant. Veuillez continuer.
